This little pillow is filled with Mort

I made a little sachet pillow with some of Mortimer's ashes. He was a great cat!
RIP my little Mo. (it was several years ago). On top is a cat button, a gift from Jeff.

the tree Sunday night

While I listened to Eugene talk, I drew part of the crooked tree that the First Unitarian church had put up, and a bit of the metal sculpture behind that I always see which reminds me of a harp or a bit of the inner ear. Didn't quite get to finish but here it is: a complicated mass of tinsel and plastic needles.

This is one of a pair of silver earrings I got in Paris. Picked out by a very special person. He always had such good taste! :)

Two of Eugene

Just lost what I wrote. doh! Let's see... try to remember.
I went to my Buddhist meditation group tonight.
I tried to sketch my teacher, Eugene Cash. He's cool and funny. He was talking about noting the feeling tone of every contact that every sense has. Pleasant, unpleasant or neutral. By noting we can learn to choose whether to react or not to our preferences.

Neither of the drawings looks much like him. My excuse: He was far away and there were lots of heads in the way.
The talk was really good tho. You can read more about the subject of the talk here:

My Freitag bag on the train and a plant

Yesterday I took the Caltrain to Redwood city with Pamela and Rich picked us up and took us to San Jose for my dad's opening. On the train I (bumpily) drew my bag.
It was a great show!

Tonight I hung out with Rich and Keiko and drew a little plant that had been saved from certain death by Tristan. It still looks like it could use some water.
I raced my bike today in Brisbane: cycle-cross. that was fun. and very hard.

Fork and Lolly

on the BART home from work yesterday. It was crowded and I tried to draw what I saw in front of me. part of my bike. nice little Hunter.

Next: today I drew a banana Tootsie Pop at work. Nobody like's banana flavor. I couldn't get any good dramatic light on it where it sat on the table so Alicia suggested I put it on the floor in the sun. I felt funny drawing it while it sat there on the blue carpet, like someone might walk in and be shocked. He he.

two days worth

Friday night after First Friday's in Oakland I was on the BART back home. ooops I hadn't made my drawing yet and I was so tired and possibly getting sick. I drew this while we were in the tunnel. hmmm, not enough time.

Then tonight I drew my new most favorite object: the tiniest bike pump in the world! It's less than 4 inches long! and bright pink. It takes a long time to pump up a tire with it, but it's so small that I don't care.

Mom

This is a little portrait of my mom made of clay by my dad around 197o-something. I will try it again soon.

Yay Giants!

I don't watch baseball usually but it was pretty fun to see the Giants win the World Series a few minutes ago. Honk Honk!!!

Heather's Brooch

It's time for Halloween and I'm dressing up as Heather number one from the 1989 film, Heathers. I'm quite proud of my costume, I even found red culottes! This is the brooch for the neck of my blouse. I did not, however, find a red croquet mallet. Oh damn! I'm getting ready to go out so I didn't spend too much time on this drawing btw.

Jack O' Lanturn

This one was carved by Kana. It has a bunch of Magnolia leaves on it's head.
It was a lot of space to cover with my little pen tip.

Reena again?

Ok, I admit it. I am a crazy cat lady! Now look at the time. gotta go....

Momo and Cheena

This one is from a photo of the two great cats of J&N. They like to get close. I think that's Momo's paw there.

the roundest uncarved pumpkin

My roommates and friends carved pumpkins while I drew one. I started to draw the light source that shined straight down on it's little round self but then changed my mind. Happy Halloween!

Kitty getting nutty

hi guys,
I drew this yesterday but forgot to post it. Kitty had just had a long toke of her catnip cigar and was getting crazy.

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

another pear

Talking to my roommates while drawing this one. sorry the picture isn't better. It's too dark in here I think. Maybe I'll take a better photo tomorrow when the sun comes out. Or is it going to rain? That's what I hear.

start of a drawing at work

I started this one today while at lunch at work. I picked a bit of plant from the (Buddliea ? ) bush in the parking lot and started drawing it on a post-it while my coworkers ate and watched me. My indian pizza was waiting for me.
It is way past my bedtime... I went to see Jonsi tonight with Amy and Leah. Wow. That was really cool! check this out:

Little Shell

Sunday. Went for a nice little ride in the rain and mud today with my girls Amanda and Leah. Fun. We rode each other's bikes to compare. The one made by Cameron is pretty awesome! wow! Can I have just one more bike?

I guess it's starting to be more like every other day that I post a drawing. Blerg! I will make more of an effort. I didn't spend too much time on this one...

Buddha

My friend Amanda brought this cool amulet back from Thailand for me. I love it.
Its gold and holds a little gold statue of the Buddha.

btw: just because I may be getting better doesn't mean every drawing is going to be a winner. I'm posting them anyway. Also, I realize I haven't always been making a drawing every single day. Remember, I never said I would exactly. I said every day or so. Isn't that what I said? I must go back and check.

Lady Riding the Cat!

Hello. Here is the cat again with his friend the bikini-clad woman with blue hair. Sorry it looks like it's floating there, but I did spend a bit of time on it.

This one's for you, Genghis!

Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Tack

I tried to draw a couple things and was not feelin' it. This tack was sitting on my desk and I tried that. It's late.

this is from the Delaware coast: Fenwick Island.

Bumble bee

My dad found this (dead) bumble bee in his back yard and gave it to me. It was in a tiny plastic container safely nestled in cotton and stored alternately in my freezer or refrigerator for several years. A few weeks ago I finally pinned it and put it in my insect collection. Here he or she is.

John Muir Laws Beetle

This is a copy of a drawing from John Muir Laws' book: Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada.
A really great book with over 2700 drawings in it of plants and animals up there in the Sierras.

This is the Elderberry Beetle, Desmocerus auripennis (female). It is red and violet. cool!

Guy on the shuttle

It was tough to draw this guy's head when he kept looking around...and it was a bumpy ride today. I know, excuses excuses...

Monday, October 4, 2010

roll of tape

This one I did while watching a movie: Wilde about Oscar Wilde. it was ok. second half was better than the first. very bitter sweet ending. He was cool. The only thing I've ever read of his I think is The Importance of Being Earnest which was made into a very bad movie not too long ago. Think I'll try something else.
Late.

kitty again

Reena looks a bit strange today. sorta has a squinty eye and tiny feet! but I like it that way.
mostly spent the day painting. wish I didn't have to sit so much. Heard it was really bad for you.
Oh well! I take lots of breaks.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

Reena by the Window

Had a few more minutes today. She was "sleeping" but still moved and stretched often. I may try it from a photo next time. There's some foreshortening I got wrong and not sure where that leg is supposed to be in space. Oh kitty! She's so good.
Ok now on to painting.

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

camera in 10 minutes

got home late. again with the not enough time to draw business! tomorrow always tomorrow.

Monday, September 27, 2010

two minute kitty

Quick one of kitty. She wouldn't sit still. I need to draw her during the day when she's not so hyper.

Saturday, September 25, 2010

sorta looks like me...

Hi! I don't wanna work on this one anymore. It was super hot here today. Finally we're getting our summer. Yay!

I think I look like the banana. The one with the crazy eyes!

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Still not quite there

Spent a little more time on my smile. Maybe I can finish it tomorrow.
Really should be painting tho.

Pistachio bird

Here is a little magnet that my mom gave me. It's a bird made of pistachio shells and it's arms hang out little holes and move like a bobble-head. The mask-like face reminds me of one of Bosch's creatures.

Back of girl's head

I was on the bike shuttle crossing over the Bay Bridge on my way back from work and wondering when I was going to have a chance to draw when I noticed the girl sitting in front of me. She had two braids that were falling out. cute. this is (sort of) what it looked like:

Tomato and My Friend Kitty

Couldn't deal with drawing part two of my smiling face tonight. Need some daylight for that anyway I think. so I found a tomato and tried to draw it. Then kitty was right there so I thought I'd draw her but she kept moving so I just drew some lines.
