Reena by the Window

Had a few more minutes today. She was "sleeping" but still moved and stretched often. I may try it from a photo next time. There's some foreshortening I got wrong and not sure where that leg is supposed to be in space. Oh kitty! She's so good.
Ok now on to painting.

Spent a little more time on my smile. Maybe I can finish it tomorrow.

Pistachio bird

Here is a little magnet that my mom gave me. It's a bird made of pistachio shells and it's arms hang out little holes and move like a bobble-head. The mask-like face reminds me of one of Bosch's creatures.

I was on the bike shuttle crossing over the Bay Bridge on my way back from work and wondering when I was going to have a chance to draw when I noticed the girl sitting in front of me. She had two braids that were falling out. cute. this is (sort of) what it looked like:

Tomato and My Friend Kitty

Couldn't deal with drawing part two of my smiling face tonight. Need some daylight for that anyway I think. so I found a tomato and tried to draw it. Then kitty was right there so I thought I'd draw her but she kept moving so I just drew some lines.

I started another one. I can see that my eyes are too far apart. I'll fix it tomorrow... and some other stuff. I'm trying to smile more. It's good for my mood.

Finished. Still could have spent more time on the hair. :)
Now gotta get ready for roommates girlfriend's birthday party.

Part one of two part drawing

I decided yesterday that my problem has been feeling rushed to 'finish' a drawing. Today I started on my face and then had to get ready to go to the MOMA for some free beer and art. So I will work on it again tomorrow. A work in progress: my face. Stay tuned!

It doesn't look like Mariana

I went to the second dfl cross-dress cycle cross race tonight after work. Rode my bike around in the dirt, had a few beers, talked to my friends, it got dark.
I came home and Mariana insisted that I draw her. That was good because I was gonna forgo the drawing altogether.
Riding my bike was fun. See you tomorrow.

Copy

I'm reading A Guide to Drawing by Daniel M. Mendelowitz and have been looking at some great drawings. I decided to copy some.
Betty Edwards has an exercise in her book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, that asks you to copy an image looking at it upside down.
I started out that way with this one, (Reclining Nude Figure by John Singer Sargent), but ended up turning it around. As usual, I needed more time. He used charcoal and I used pencil. meh.

Letter B bead

Hi.
I was talking on the phone to Leah when I drew this. It is a little fimo bead I have been holding onto for a long time. It was getting near bed time and wanted something easy. I find wood to be a challange. (wood you say? yeah, the table it was on: wood.)
Now it's way past bed time. oh no!

Baby on Mushroom

In honor of the birth of my friends Gabriel and Leah's daughter on Thursday I drew the baby on the mushroom display made by Melanie. Congratulations! and Welcome Skyler!
The baby's feet are jammed down into the stipe of the mushroom which is getting a little dry.

'So much as a cup...'

Good sunny day here in SF! I can hear some live music coming from the Mission Cultural Center just a block away. The windows are all open.
I made myself a cup of tea. Again, I feel like if I'd finished the background a bit it'd be a better drawing, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the time after 45 minutes.
I'm pretty happy that I drew at all. I hope you are too.

Late post
Made this one last night while Pamela was cooking. I took a mushroom out of the pile. A perfect little guy. Tried to get him to sit on the table. He sort of wanted to float there.
What shall I draw today?

Still coughin' but mostly only at night. why is that as soon as I lie down I can't stop coughing!? ugh. Hard to sleep.
Tonight straight after work I went to the dfl cross dress race #1. I didn't race, due to my cough. Definitely next week tho. must come up with interesting costume...
So, I didn't do the background here; I was getting too tired. I did try to give the pig a little wood grain. The watermelon rind just stumped me... It kind of looked all the same value. Color is a crutch I miss so much!

Soup bowl

I made a cabbage soup. I ate it. I started to draw. The sun went down. I will spend a little more time next time or start earlier.

Feeling better today. I went to the Impressionist show at the deYoung. It was really crowded but so glad I went. Got to see Les raboteurs de parquet by Caillebotte. So great!

The Pen is Back!

It's tough to make a drawing every day. It takes up a lot of time. I enjoy it but once I'm done I look at the clock and think: 'shit! It's time for bed already!'
Good thing I don't have to go to work tomorrow. I start my part time deal this week. Yippee!

The drawing for the day is of a papier-mache cat I made some years ago. There's a lady in a bikini who rides on his back. I'll draw them together for you soon.
